Privacy Policy

Your tasks, notes and handwriting

PenTask stores your tasks, notes, handwriting, drawings, label names, priorities and due dates locally on your iPad. The app does not upload this content to us or include it in usage analytics.

If you choose to back up your device using Apple's services, those backups are handled under Apple's privacy policy. If you choose to export or share content, including in a support email, that content leaves your device at your direction.

Anonymous usage analytics

PenTask uses TelemetryDeck to understand how features are used and help us improve the app. Usage sharing is optional and enabled by default. You can turn it off in Settings → Privacy & usage data.

Usage events describe actions such as creating a task or completing one by swipe. App-defined event details use yes/no flags, action categories and count ranges rather than the text you write or the content you draw.

Events also include technical information about the app and device, such as the PenTask version and build number, iPad model, iPadOS version, screen information, language, region and appearance settings, along with event timing, session information and an anonymized identifier used to understand repeat usage and calculate usage statistics.

We do not send your task content, label names, name, email address, contacts, photos or advertising identifier to TelemetryDeck. We do not request access to your device location for analytics. Language and region settings are technical metadata, not GPS location.

Internet access and your choices

PenTask's task and note features work offline. When usage sharing is enabled, the app uses an internet connection to send analytics events to TelemetryDeck.

You can disable usage sharing at any time in Settings → Privacy & usage data without losing access to the app's features. Disabling sharing stops further analytics collection and transmission; it does not remove events already received by TelemetryDeck.

We do not associate usage analytics with your support email or try to identify you from these events. Because we do not have a link between your identity and the anonymized analytics identifier, we cannot locate your individual usage events from your name or email address.

Third-party services and sharing

TelemetryDeck, an analytics provider based in Germany, receives and processes usage events for PenTask. TelemetryDeck describes its identifiers as anonymized and states that it does not store IP addresses on its analytics servers. Its analytics infrastructure is hosted in the European Union.

We do not sell your information, use usage analytics for advertising, or combine it with support correspondence. PenTask has no ads, and we do not share information with data brokers or use it to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

Support and privacy correspondence is handled through our email service provider. Sending an email involves processing by your email provider and ours, and correspondence may be processed outside your country.

TelemetryDeck's privacy policy and privacy FAQ explain its processing and retention practices. Turning off sharing does not delete previously submitted analytics events.

Support and privacy enquiries

You can contact us at [email protected] for support or privacy enquiries. We receive your email address and any information or attachments you choose to send, such as a description of a problem or a screenshot. Please avoid sending passwords, sensitive information or private task content unless necessary to explain your request.

We use correspondence to respond to your enquiry and investigate or resolve the issue you raise. We do not add you to mailing lists, sell your correspondence or combine it with usage analytics.

We keep correspondence only for as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any related follow-up, or meet legal requirements. You can ask us to delete your correspondence by emailing the same address. If we need to retain some information, we will explain why.

Apple's frameworks

PenTask uses Apple's built-in frameworks, including PencilKit for handwriting. Using these frameworks does not give us access to your private app content. Apple's own services, including device backups you enable, are governed by Apple's privacy policy.

PenTask does not request children's names, contact details or private task content for analytics. The same limits on analytics content and the same usage-sharing setting apply to all users.

If you believe a child has sent us personal information in support correspondence that should be deleted, please contact [email protected].

Changes to this policy

This update describes anonymous usage analytics introduced in PenTask 1.1.0 and how we handle support and privacy correspondence.

We will update this policy when our practices change. Material changes to how information is collected or used will be explained clearly before they take effect, and we will obtain consent where required. The date above shows when this policy was last updated.
